Display: Staff Pics from the Library

Not only can you find selections from Oprah's Book Club on display at the Library, but the library staff themselves have also selected "some" of the their favorite reads from the stacks here in the MIC, and those "pics" are on display as well. DISPLAY: Michael Crichton

Author Michael Crichton died on Election Day of 2008. His books have sold over 150 million copies worldwide. A number of them have been made into films such as Jurassic Park and Congo. He is also the creator of the hit TV series ER. Feel free to check out the display in the library, and one or more of his books.

DISPLAY: Studs Terkel

The author and oral historian Studs Terkel died this Halloween 2008. His famous self chosen epitaph was "curiosity did not ckill this cat." May we all be so curious...

DISPLAY: Remembering Tony Hillerman

Stop by the library and check out the display of Tony Hillerman's mysteries set in the Navajo nation. Those of us who remember the antics of Joe Leaphorn and Jim Chee will sorely miss the mystical world that Hillerman introduced us to and about which he taught us so much. You can read Hillerman's obituary in the New York Times.

Join us on Thursday Oct. 23rd between 2:30-4pm for the First Annual Faculty/Staff Chili Cookoff and Tasting and try a dozen different chilis. Faculty and Staff will be competing for the crown of Top Chili Chef. Stop in, warm up, and get your chili on!

DISPLAY: T.C. Boyle

Champlain College welcomes acclaimed author T.C. Boyle to campus on Tuesday, Oct. 7th to discuss the 10th Annual Community Book, “Tortilla Curtain.” But that’s not his only book!

The Library has put together a small display of Boyle’s fiction at the Circulation Desk.
Come up to the Library to peruse just a few of Boyle’s other works including “Tooth and Claw,” “Drop City,” “The Inner Circle,” and a collection of short stories.

We hope to see you at the Library, and at the Community Book Talk on Tuesday at 7:30.

DISPLAY: October Is National Book Month

The library foyer display case will feature some of the books chosen to be National Book Award Winners and Finalists over recent years. The first National Book Award was first given out in 1950. Awards are given in four different genres: Fiction, Non- Fiction, Poetry, and Young People's Literature.

Read banned books. Celebrating the freedom to read. There will be a display at the MIC circulation desk of some of the most frequently challenged and banned books. These books may be signed out. The display will be up from September 26 through October 6.

DISPLAY: F. Scott Fitzgerald Birth Anniversary

F. Scott Fitzgerald, renowned American novelist, was born on September 24, 1896 in St. Paul, Minnesota. In remembrance of his birth we have created a display at the library circulation desk with books that Fitzgerald wrote, as well as biographies about him. These books will be on display through the month of September.

A display at the Library Circulation desk celebrates Vermont Archaeology Month. Books about the history of Vermont will be on display as well as books about archaeology in Vermont. The display will be up throughout the month of September. A variety of activities are planned throughout the state to celebrate Vermont Archaeology Month.

DISPLAYS: Google's Birthday and September Project

Two new displays are now on exhibit in Miller Information Commons.

The September Project: The September Project is a grass-roots effort that was started in 2004 to promote freedom and democracy all over the world.  This display will be in the main foyer display case during the month of September.

Happy 10th Birthday Google!  Books about Google to celebrate its 10th birthday are on display at the main desk through mid-September.
